Care comes first
Hi, I’m Dr. Marta Canfield
I tried conventional fertility treatments and they failed causing significant anxiety and stress. I knew there had to be something missing. Researching diet and lifestyle changes, I balanced my hormones myself and had two babies naturally!
I know the struggles you are going through because I’ve been there! This prompted me to continue my women’s hormonal health training after medical school and open my own private practice to pass along this integrative approach to balancing women’s hormones.
I graduated from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine with an MD in 2007. I then went on to finish my Family Medicine residency at Suburban Hospital in Williamsville, NY through the University of Buffalo as well. I’ve studied with integrative and functional medicine mentors to make sure I am bringing you evidence-based, proven women’s health integrative protocols.
In addition to my over 15 years of accumulated medical knowledge, I’m also well versed in handling the emotional aspects of healthcare. I have always prioritized listening to the story of each patient that walks through my door and actively involve them in the health plan that is ultimately developed. I also take great pride in educating my patients so they do not continue to make the mistakes of their past and can instead feel empowered to make better decisions as they continue their health journey.
My private practice moved from New York to North Carolina. I am now located in Mooresville, NC! My private practice has consists of Women’s Hormonal Health consults, Weight Optimization Program with or without GLP-1s (semaglutide or tirzepatide) as well as Women’s Integrative Direct Primary Care. MY goal is to help my patients reach their wellness goals! I am seeing patients in person as well as via Telemedicine in 12 states (see below).
Board-Certified Family Medicine Physician
In primary care we are generalists. I tell patients we are trained to be the gatekeepers and know a little about a lot of things. With time we become experts in different conditions or niches in medicine. I use to be a primary care physician but have transitioned into Integrative Medicine. This means I try to minimize the number of pharmaceuticals I prescribe and treat conservatively until we need to be more aggressive in diagnosis, which could mean more testing and medications over my first line of nutrition and lifestyle changes. As a licensed physician with medical licenses to practice in 12 states, I can prescribe medications, order blood work and x-ray studies plus refer to specialists, if needed.
*Even though I do not have a private primary care panel anymore, I always make sure to use my knowledge from conventional medicine in these integrative consults. In turn, you may need to see your Primary Care Provider if we determine there is something that needs to be explored as part of your treatment that I do not do as a consultant.*
